Oh shucks, thanks for that astute observation. I’ll take the bait. My approach isn’t completely “me vs. the world” but I do feel a certain kinship to a lifestyle of solitude, because I think the relationship I have with myself is of the utmost importance. That sounds a little narcissistic, but I simply mean that I’ve got to understand and love myself completely before I could ever let someone else. And yes, I do enjoy immensely when people tell me I’m pretty. I didn’t hear it nearly enough growing up.

The fact that you find a degree of pleasure in people ("boys") complimenting you on your looks suggests that you hope this "me against the world" phase is temporary. And yes, I know, I'm good.
